i understand that its part of tumblr culture to dig up and expose the bad things people have done and it is actually important to bring awareness to the major flaws in people we idolize but very bad people have been making good and important impacts on the human race since the beginning of time and while we shouldn’t celebrate the entire person or ignore the bad things that they’ve said or done we also can’t invalidate their contributions because they’re flawed characters. like a lot of good things have been yielded by terrible means and as much as we’d like to go back and undo them we can’t so instead of knocking down the pyramids at giza because they were built by slaves or discrediting all of david bowie’s work because he may have done terrible things, we have to say “ok from now on we’re not gonna do that stuff when we make our art but that art is still here now and we can expand on it and be inspired by it the right way” i guess what im saying is we cant keep saying “fuck that person and everything they did forever” whenever somebody dies and tumblr finds a reason why theyre problematic because we’re making this a space thats heavily censored and doesnt allow exposure to art that wasnt created in the most pure and “woke” way possible and thats actually really not good
